Ontario adult helmet bill fails

A private member's bill to introduce a mandatory helmet law for adults failed in September 2005, having run out of time at the end of the parliamentary session. It was not supported by the Government.

The proposal had angered cyclists, not least because of the secretive way that it had been introduced at short notice in November 2004, with no prior consultation.

Ontario already has a child law, which was originally for all ages, but adults were subsequently exempted in 1995 following public protests.
